How to calculate print size for your photos

Mar 2, 2016

I am trying to print large awesome pics for Queen's Vets using Photoshop and sending image to the printer.

Minimum size is 240 ppi to get awesome print but most people say it is 300 ppi.

CALCULATION
Divide the longest edge of image (pixels) by the longest edge of the desired print size (inches) to get the ppi.

E.g.
1.  Image 3840x5760 pixels and you want a 8"x10" print
Calculation:   5760/10 = 576 ppi.
Good resolution.

2. If I want a 30"X20" poster,    5760/30 = 192 ppi. Not good resolution.

I have the following image   1920px x 1280 px  size = 7.03M
If I want a 10" x 8" print,   1920/10 = 192 ppi.  Insufficient resolution. Waste of money to print it at 10" x 8" print.
